PhD position in Geomorphology

Titel: PhD position in Geomorphology
Hochschule : Universität Bern

Inserat-Nummer: 18665
Schweizerischer Nationalfonds: Yes

The Exogene Geology Group at the University of Bern is seeking applications to fill a PhD position in Weathering and Erosion. The position is funded for three years. The successful candidate would be expected to begin early in 2010.
The application deadline is Dec. 7th.

The project will investigate modern and Pleistocene weathering and erosion on the Western Escarpment of the Peruvian Andes. Elemental mass loss of soils will be used in conjunction with cosmogenic nuclide-derived denudation rates to quantify the modern chemical and physical weathering system from the thick regolith mantled slopes on the Meseta to the thin, poorly developed soils near the edge of the coastal plains. Cosmogenic nuclide concentrations in river terraces will also be used to determine paleodenudation rates during pluvial phases.

Candidates are expected to have a masters degree (MSc) in Earth Sciences or a related discipline. A background in geomorphology, GIS, and/or geochemistry is desired.

Applications including: cover letter detailing research interests, CV, copies of degree certificates, and the name and contact details of at least two referees, should be sent to:
