Hydroinformatics course

Hydroinfomatics:
modelling and infomation systems for integrated water management Hydroinformatics uses simulation modelling and information and communication technology to help in solving problems of hydraulics, hydrology and environmental engineering for better management of civil engineering systems. Main application areas are flood and
river basin management, urban and coastal systems.

Who should attend the Hydroinformatics course
If you have graduated or are working as a professional in civil engineering, preferably in water-related area,
If you want to take advantage of advances in information and communication technology (ICT) as applied to water,
If you have a background in civil engineering,
hydraulics or hydrology and/or applied mathematics, and
if you are prepared to make an effort to complete your knowledge in these domains,
If you are ready to use computers and Internet,
if you are eager to explore computer-based modelling of water flows and hydrological processes, data mining, artificial intelligence, neural networks, decision support and optimisation applied to water systems management,
If you feel that traditional engineering activities should better interact with other topics such as ecology, social requirements and management,

By the end of the course the participants will understand the fundamentals of water-related processes and advancce in a wide range of hydroinformatics technologies know how to choose and use advanced models applied to water-related assets in a wide variety of hydraulic engineering, hydrologic and environmental situations, including water resources and flood management and other problems of civil engineering know about software tools available on the market, and their possible advantages and limitations be able to provide advice to users of advanced information and communication technology tools will know how to ride a bike (after all, this is

Masters program
The first 12 months consists of a series of compulsory lectures, exercises, examinations and fieldtrips. The last 6 moths are devoted to the MSc thesis work.
