Natural and Environmental Sciences Department, University of Koblenz-Landau invites applications for a PhD scholarship at the Institute for Environmental Sciences at the Campus Landau/Pfalz, Germany. The scholarship is for up to 3 years and will be 1000 € per month (tax free).
Topic
The PhD study investigates the combined effects of anthropogenic stressors on ecosystems on large spatial scales (e.g. pesticides, climate change). The study will combine data analysis with geospatial modeling/geographic information system analysis (GIS). The candidate is expected to develop, conduct, analyze and publish the results. The study is funded by the Institute for Environmental Sciences (working groups Quantitative Landscape Ecology and Ecotoxicology & Environment). As a member of these working groups, the PhD candidate will have access to a multicore workstation and a linux cluster. The candidate will work within the young and interdisciplinary team of researchers at the Institute for Environmental Sciences.
Requirements
The successful candidate holds a degree (M.Sc, Diploma) in a relevant field (e.g., ecology, environmental sciences, landscape ecology, geography, geoinformatics), has a strong background in statistical data analysis techniques and spatial analysis and is fluent in English. Good software/programming skills (e.g. R, GRASS GIS, Shell scripting, PostGIS, parallel computing) are required, ecological/ecotoxicological background is advantageous but not obligatory. She/he is interested in interdisciplinary research, very motivated, able to work independently and has the necessary computational skills to conduct the project.
