The International Graduate College "Stochastics and Real World Models" Beijing-Bielefeld advertises fellowships for PhD students, starting Oct 1st, 2010
In the framework of an International Graduate College (International Research Training Group, supported by DFG) we offer fellowships for a PhD program starting October 1, 2010, for up to 3 years duration.
The program is organized by the Bielefeld University Mathematics Department in cooperation with the Departments of Economics and Physics, the research institutions IMW and BiBoS, and together with the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing (partner institutions: IAM, AMSS, GUCAS). Doctorate degrees will be awarded by one of the three Departments of Bielefeld University.
The interdisciplinary training and research program is oriented towards the study of modern methods in Stochastics and their application in Physics and Economics. A structured course program will enable students to undertake research projects without undue delay. Lectures and courses by visiting scientists, as well as the exchange program with China, will further contribute to a broad and internationally viable education.
Graduates (Master level) from the aforementioned three fields with a pronounced interest in Mathematics and its interdisciplinary applications are encouraged to apply.
We are aiming to increase the proportion of female researchers in the college; given parity with respect to all other relevant criteria, female applicants will receive preferential treatment in the fellowship awarding decisions.
Candidates with physical disabilities who fulfill the abovementioned criteria are particularly encouraged to apply.
Deadline: August 13, 2010. Post-deadline applications may possibly also be considered.
Please submit PDF files of
* your completed application form (including the names and contact data two possible referees) along with
* your CV,
* copies of your diplomas and certificates,
* a sketch of your research interests, and
* possibly your written work (papers, theses, etc.),

PhD Position Applied Mathematics
PhD Position Applied Mathematics
Description : The Delft Applied Probability Group offers a PhD position for 4 years, monthly salary up to 2600 euro. Topic: algorithms and analysis of Search Games. Application deadline: March 1st 2009 Candidates should have a MSc degree in mathematics, computer science or econometrics. Topic: A Search Game is a game of hide and seek in a given region, most often a graph or a region in euclidean space, in which the searcher is allowed to move and the hider is immobile. These type of games can be solved using discrete or continous optimization methods. If the hider is no longer immobile or if there is more than one hider, then the solution of these games becomes more involved. Solutions for the simplest regions, such as the unit interval or the triangle graph, have only recently been found. The goal of this PhD research is to extend these solutions using methods from applied probability and combinatorics. You will work with researchers from Delft
University and the London School of Economics.

PhD Position in Applied Mathematics, University of Antwerp, Belgium
The University of Antwerp is a knowledge centre with 3.400 employees involved in ground-breaking and innovative research of international standing. The university takes special care to ensure optimum support and supervision of students, and pays constant attention to educational innovation. The University is an autonomous pluralistic institution that is committed to the enhancement of an open, democratic and multicultural society, and it pursues an equal opportunities policy.
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is seeking to fill in the following full time vacancy (m/f):
PhD position in Applied Mathematics
Assignment:
* you prepare a PhD thesis in the domain of Numerical Analysis
* you take up a limited teaching duty.
Research:
The research lies within the FWO group project "Design of new models and techniques for high performance financial applications". This project is concerned with new models and techniques for robustly and efficiently pricing modern financial products, in particular exotic options. To this purpose we investigate numerical methods for partial differential equations that form multi-dimensional extensions of the celebrated Black-Scholes equation. The nature of the research is both theoretical (analysis and design of methods) and practical (implementation and performance analysis of the methods).

* you have a master's degree in mathematics
* last year students can apply
* you can show excellent study results
* you have knowledge of and experience with numerical methods for (time-dependent, partial) differential equations and share an interest in mathematical price models for modern financial products such as options.
We offer:
* a scholarship for a period of four years
* starting date is in 2008
* position is open also to non-EU citizens.
Interested?
