Secondary
- PhD-positions are for four years on a full-time basis (contract for 18 months, with
an extension of 30 months after a positive evaluation). The PhD will follow a tailor
made research training programme of 20 ECTS and will write a doctoral
dissertation. The successful candidates maybe asked to do some teaching.

Guidelines for applications: http://www.rug.nl/let/onderzoek/onderzoekinstituten/
clcg/positions/

These guidelines should be used for writing your application for a research
position leading to a PhD in our Graduate School. All positions are for a period of
four years, on the condition of a positive evaluation after 18 months.
The goal of the application format is twofold:
1. It will enable us to judge the merit of the topic which you wish to study in
relation to the goals of the specific research programme within the field of
linguistics.
2. It will enable us to compare the relative merits of the applicants efficiently and
with a minimum of bias.
Please respect these guidelines. Applications that do not follow this format will be
rejected.

Your application should consist of the following elements in the following order:
1. A letter of application
2. A curriculum vitae, including date and place of birth, the name of your
secondary school, and (if applicable) list of academic publications
3. A certified copy of your diploma ('doctorandus' or MA degree, or an equivalent)
and your academic record and grades
4. Two academic references
5. A research project proposal of no more than three pages (plus figures and
references).

Our most important question in evaluating project sketches is always: will this
project contribute to our scientific understanding of language? To determine this
we want to know whether an important question is addressed, and whether there
is a reasonable strategy for finding an answer. See for more requirements
regarding the sketch: http://www.rug.nl/let/onderzoek/onderzoekinstituten/clcg/

ICRS-Yogya is an international Ph.D. program in inter-religious studies which is supported by three leading universities: Gadjah Mada University, State Islamic University Sunan Kalijaga, and Duta Wacana Christian University. Inter-religious studies at ICRS-Yogya focus on religions in Asia (especially Indonesia), using the tools of social, historical and cultural sciences, as well as taking seriously the normative teaching of each religion. Students from different religious and academic backgrounds study in respectful dialogue with one another. ICRS-Yogya students often study religions in relation to contemporary issues such as social justice, human rights, environment, gender, civil society, conflict, violence, religion and science, etc. ICRS-Yogya also offers comparative interpretation of sacred texts especially in relation to social and public life.

In addition to taking doctoral seminars offered by ICRS-Yogya, our students take elective graduate courses relevant to their research interests taught by Indonesian and foreign faculty members of all three universities. The ICRS-Yogya Ph.D. degree is legally based at Gadjah Mada University.

ICRS-Yogya accepts students from different religious, gender, ethnic, academic and national backgrounds. Currently, we have accepted students from Egypt, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Poland, Egypt, and the United States. As an international program, all lectures at ICRS-Yogya are conducted in English. Indonesian students are required to spend at least one semester at leading foreign universities such as Cape Town, Duke, Georgetown, GTU Berkeley, Melbourne, National University Singapore, Temple, and Union NY.

For 2010 รข€“ 2011 academic year, ICRS-Yogya provides scholarships from Ford Foundation, Indonesian Government, United Board, Henry Luce Foundation, and other sources for selected students. We provide a number pretigious scholarship packages, up to US$ 29,650 or IDR 270.000.000 for highly qualified, selected students. The package includes full tuition and living allowance for four years, book allowance per semester, health insurance, and a sandwich program at a leading foreign university, including travel and living cost. Recipients of the scholarship awards are expected to contribute at least 60 hours per semester to teaching, research/clerical support at ICRS-Yogya in return for their award.

Selected applicants who need to improve their English can join the Pre-Ph.D program conducted on April 19-July 30, 2010. This program addressed to the applicants whose TOEFL scores are between 475-525. Selected applicants who are invited to take the Pre-Ph.D. program are guaranteed admission to ICRS if they raise their TOEFL score to 525 before the end of the Pre-Ph.D. program.

ICRS-Yogya application is opened throughout the year. However, the interested candidates who want to start their courses in September 2010 have to send their completed application form before March 1, 2010.
