PhD Position in Probability and Mathematical Statistics Tilburg, June 30, 2008
Applications are invited for a PhD position in probabilistic and statistical aspects of extreme value theory and its applications in insurance and finance. The position may be taken up as early as 1 September 2008.
The PhD candidate will work under the supervision of Prof. Dr. J.H.J. Einmahl and Dr. R.J.A. Laeven.
Positions are for three years and are open to candidates with a two year research master¢s (MPhil) or equivalent. Candidates with a one-year master¢s degree may be requested to complete a tailormade one-year MPhil program before entering into the PhD program.
Applicants should have a strong background in mathematics with an emphasis on probability theory and mathematical statistics. The PhD candidate will be affiliated with the CentER Graduate School, which forms part of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. The PhD program provides students with opportunities to participate in research seminars and to interact with the leading scholars from all over the world.
According to the December 2003 ranking by the Journal of the European Economic Association (JEEA), Tilburg University's CentER is the best research institution in Europe. The salary for a full-time appointment increases from 1867 Euros per month in the first year to 2394 Euros per month in the final year.
