PhD Sudentship Awards
Cognitive, Cellular and Molecular Studies of Motor Neurone Disease
Euan MacDonald Centre for Motor Neurone Disease Research

Applications are invited for up to three 3/4 year PhD studentships funded by the Euan MacDonald MND Research Centre at the University of Edinburgh to begin in September 2008. For applicants who do not possess a Masters qualification the first year of study will be spent on either the Neuroscience or Human Cognitive Neuropsychology MSc training programmes. This is followed by a 3 year PhD programme. The successful candidates will be supervised by members of the Euan MacDonald Centre for Motor Neurone Disease Research, see http://www.cnr.ed.ac.uk/EMCPhDStud.pdf .
Students interested in undertaking a PhD in topics ranging from the neuropsychology of MND to the molecular or cellular aspects of neurodegeneration and repair are invited to apply. Tuition fees will be at the Home/EU level, but could, in exceptional circumstances, be increased and outstanding overseas candidates are encouraged to apply. The annual stipend for maintenance will be at ~£13,000 and research costs of up to £7500 per annum are awarded.
CRITERIA
Applicants must comply with the University of Edinburgh requirements for postgraduate study and should have a good degree and/or a Masters in a relevant subject. The award will be made by a panel and will be based primarily on academic merit.
