*PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

SAP Research is a worldwide organization with European research sites in Belfast (UK), Darmstadt (D), Dresden (D), Karlsruhe (D), Sophia Antipolis (F) and St. Gallen (CH). The UK research location is situated within a odern building on the University of Ulster campus near Belfast. The team consists of twenty people, which is expected to double over the next two years. The office provides a relaxed working environment with flexible working hours and the opportunity to become part of the global SAP

*This role will require a strong academic background and a proactive approach to problem solving.
*Essential Skills/Qualifications*
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following skills:
- MSc or BSc 2:1 equivalent in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or related fields
- Analytical and conceptual thinking
- Strong Presentation/Communication skills
- Self motivation
- Interest in innovative technologies
- Programming skills (especially Java and/or C++)
- Experience in software engineering
*Desirable Skills
*In addition to the essential skills, the ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following additional skills:
- Knowledge of Service Oriented Architectures
- Knowledge of Performance Engineering
- Knowledge of Linux and computer architectures
- Experience in computer networks and distributed systems
*EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS*
The role of the research engineer is to progress the state of the art in Enterprise Software through the following tasks:
- Analyse the state of the art. Apply the latest technologies to create prototypes and pilot demonstrations.
- Coordinate/Perform research activities, communicate with internal colleagues and external project partners and collaborate with SAP development groups.
- Develop algorithms and processes to address real life problems affecting enterprise software.
- Coordinate research activities with academic supervisor at University.
- Develop patents, guide development and shape the future of the IT industry.
The work performed in Belfast covers several areas, including:
- Performance Engineering, Service Orientate Architectures(SOA), Services Orientated Infrastructure (SOI), Model DrivenDesign (MDD), Grid Deployment, Service Level Agreements (SLA), Enterprise Architectures, Distributed Systems, Hosted Environments and Virtualisation.
