International Environmental Research Center (IERC) at Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), Korea, is currently operating UNU & GIST
Joint Programme on Science and Technology for Sustainability. The primary objective of the Joint Programme is to carry out research and training on science and technology for environmental sustainability. IERC organizes an international Internship Programme twice per year, offering postgraduate students from developing countries the opportunity to participate in a 4-month training course in collaboration with the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, GIST. We are seeking up to 8 intern students for the coming Spring semester.
The Programme is designed to provide knowledge and skills on science and technology for sustainability from both theoretical and empirical perspectives.
Details
Participants of the Programme will be assigned to a department laboratory and receive their research training and course work under the supervision of the professor charging for the laboratory. During the final week of the Programme, each participant shall present the results of their research.
Information regarding department labs and courses offered can be obtained in the department brochure. Applicants should choose participating laboratories of interest and fill in the application form in order of priority.
Participants who successfully complete the Programme will receive an IERC Certificate of Completion Requirements include research result presentations and regular class attendance as well as active participation in the program.
The Programme record of each participant will be available for evaluation if he/she wishes to enter GIST MSc. or Ph.D. programs.

- Duration: approximately 4 months (March 2, 2008 ~ June 30, 2008)
Support for the participants
- Round trip airfare (economy class)
- Visa fee (receipt required)
- Dormitory accommodation (two persons per room)
- Stipend of 400,000 Korean Won (approximately $ 400) per month, covering dormitory rent (30,000 Korean Won) & living costs
- Medical insurance during the Programme period
Visa status
Please remember that you should get a D-4 visa when you apply for a Korean visa.
