WHO CAN APPLY
Students of any country and age with one of the following degree:
•academic title conferred by foreign institutions, recognised as equivalent to an Italian title by the relevant academic authorities, also considering inter-university specific agreements of cooperation and mobility;
•an Italian laurea specialistica (3+2 years);
•an Italian university degree - pre-reform regime (4 years).
Note: candidates do not need to have already obtained the master degree (second cycle of higher education) in order to apply. However, admission is conditional on the obtainment of the degree no later than October 31, 2008.
Applicants with a foreign university degree (not validated by an Italian authority yet):
In order to obtain the certification of equivalence by this University Teachers' Board and for the sole purposes of the admission, the Applicant with a foreign university degree must attach to the application form:
- a certified copy of the University degree with the complete list of exams, the translation into Italian and the relevant authentication.
- a "Statement of validity" (Dichiarazione di valore) of the above mentioned document by the Italian Representative (Embassy or Consulate) in the country of the University which have released this document. This statement of validity must certify that this title is suitable for admission to a same academic course in the country where it has been released.
- applicants may also include all documentation, duly certified and translated into Italian, which may be judged appropriate for the purposes of the evaluation by part of the Teachers' Board (courses, programs, exams, etc).
Note: admission is conditional for those candidates with foreign university degree who cannot deliver the required documents before the admission competition.
Documents must be delivered before the enrolment to the course.
DEADLINES FOR APPLICATIONS
Applications must be received no later than September 18, 2008. Info about admission exams, test dates and other details are available in the section of the announcement regarding the single doctorate courses. Every communication (exam dates, ranking of qualified candidates, deadline of enrolment, further notice) will be given only by the official website: http://www.unibo.it - Ricerca - Dottorati di Ricerca.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
Check in the section referred to every single Doctoral course if some particular documents are required for the application.
HOW TO APPLY
In order to apply for the Research Doctorate at the University of Bologna a student should:
1. link to the website: www.almawelcome.unibo.it;
2. follow the instructions to log in;
3. choose Admission test subscription and print the file
Registration form (iscrizione a prova di ammissione - A.A. 2008/09 scheda riepilogativa), and the file Included documents (Application form Annex 1);
4. pay € 42,00 as application fee no later than September 18, 2008, at 2,00 p.m. choosing one of the following ways:
a) on line with credit card: Visa, Mastercard, Diners, American
Express;
b) exclusively by UniCredit Banca using the payment code found on line. List of Agenzie Unicredit on website: www.almawelcome.unibo.it.
For further details please read carefully the application instructions on the announcement.
Students should send the Registration form, the Application form Annex 1 and the payment receipt by means of one of the following methods:
1. recorded-delivery letter with advice of receipt or express courier addressed to:

It is necessary to write on the envelope: "Concorso ammissione Dottorato di Ricerca XXIV ciclo"; it is possible to send in advance the Registration form, the Application form Annex 1 and the payment receipt by Fax: n. 051/2094649.
2. by personal delivery directly at ARIC – Ufficio Formazione Scientifica Post Laurea, Via Belle Arti 42, 40126 Bologna, open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays from 9,00 until 11,15; on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 14,30 until 15,30.
GRANTS AND TUITION COSTS
Grants consisting an yearly amount of € 13.638,47 gross paid in monthly instalment. The grant is increased by 50% during periods of study abroad. Information on fellowships reserved for foreign students can be found at http://www.isa.unibo.it/ISA/Activities/VisitingPhDs/default.htm
Students admitted without a grant have to pay a registration fee (approx. € 600,00), while the remaining part of the cost of the program is covered by the University.
