Doctoral Research Fellowship in Economics : Exploiting personal data:
between financial constraints and privacy protection.

Applications are invited from students interested in studying for a PhD in the area of innovation economics, law and economics, informatics and engineering. Students should have completed a Master’s degree in a related area such as management, economics, law, sociology. The French Fellowship is for €1.500 per month (net incomes) payable for a maximum of 3 years (starting in October 2007). The programme includes a period of research in US.
Objective
The aim of the research is to evaluate the economic value of privacy within the pervasive ICT (Information communication technologies) diffusion. On the one hand, personal data collections are crucial for ensuring security, on the other hand the diffusion of ICT does not respect the privacy of individuals.
The research work will focus on:
• Review of literature on economics and law;
• Analysis of the technical and economical features linked to the collection of personal data;
• Qualitative methods of analysis for investigating into the social cost of data exploitation (data collection and econometric application)
• Critical debate among the legal and economic situation in Europe and in US.
